Choose from our extensive range of taught gallery sessions led by creative and experienced learning staff. Take advantage of unique access to The Ashmolean’s collections with curators and Oxford academics at our Sixth Form Study Days. Booking is essential.

Designed to cater for all learning needs, we also offer free school visits to our highly acclaimed exhibitions, teacher CPD opportunities and downloadable online resources.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

We welcome and support children with SEND integrated in mainstream schools. We also design and deliver free sessions for students from special schools, as well as outreach sessions for children who can’t get to the Museum eg hospital schools.

Our taught gallery sessions are planned as inclusive learning opportunities and activities can be adapted for students with SEND if flagged up at the time of booking.

We can provide visual description for children with visual impairment as well as large print resources, raised images and handling resources including, in some cases, original archaeological artefacts as well as replicas.

We are able to talk through the museum context and aspects of a visit that may affect children with autism. Our experienced educators can make suggestions to help with planning for your trip.

Our SEND offer also includes designing bespoke visits for children who are part of the Gifted and Talented programme.

Exhibitions

Teacher training and CPD

We offer an extensive programme of teacher CPD across a range of curriculum subjects which are tailored to each school’s needs. We can arrange pre-visit planning sessions, including exhibition previews.

We also deliver specially designed programmes each year for trainee teachers from a range of institutions including Oxford University, Oxford Brookes University, local School Direct programmes and Bath Spa University on subjects including RE, history, art and design, science and English.
