BRINGING HISTORY TO LIFE | 2025 ANNUAL APPEAL

Thank you for your donations and support. Although this appeal has closed you can still make a general donation to the Museum.

With your help, the Ashmolean can continue bringing history to life — creating inspiring exhibitions, immersive displays, and learning experiences that share our extraordinary collections with visitors today and for generations to come.

Bringing History to Life

Fra Angelico's Crucifixion on display in the Ashmolean

Displaying our collections

On your next visit, seek out this remarkable Crucifixion by the Renaissance master Fra Angelico, which we acquired after a successful fundraising campaign last year — we couldn’t have done it without your help.

The painting’s arrival has inspired a fresh rehang of our Renaissance galleries that brings the art of this period to life and highlights the great strengths of the Ashmolean’s early Italian collections.

Conserving our objects

This delicate study for Raphael’s Resurrection of Christ has recently undergone expert conservation to preserve its fine lines and subtle shading, revealing the artist’s creative process in remarkable detail.

As a key focus of a major research project at the Ashmolean, the drawing is soon to travel to New York as part of a series of loans to the Metropolitan Museum of Art for their landmark 2026 Raphael exhibition.

New Rome and Etruscan galleries

A powerful recent example of our efforts to bring the Museum's extraordinary collections to life is the transformation of our Rome and Etruscan galleries, unveiled last May in 2025.

This bold refurbishment breathes new life into the ancient world, offering our visitors fresh perspectives on the Roman Empire in an inspiring, immersive space for all.

None of this vital work would be possible without your generous support.

Engaging the public

In February 2025, the Ashmolean was once again alive with colour, music, and stories as communities from across Oxfordshire came together for our annual One World Family Festival.

From traditional Indian and Chinese dance performances to Arabic calligraphy workshops, the weekend offered exciting and moving experiences for visitors of all ages.
