Advance booking is required for all organised groups, including self-guided visits. We require all organised groups of more than 10 people to book at least two weeks in advance.

All group experiences can be combined with catering, including lunch packages and afternoon tea in the Rooftop Restaurant.

Our Daytime Group Talks and Tours offer an engaging way to explore the Ashmolean’s remarkable collections and connect more deeply with the stories they tell with an expert staff guide.

  • Highlights Tour: Discover the story of the Ashmolean and explore highlights from its world-renowned collections, beginning with the Museum's founding in 1683. , this guided tour introduces the people, objects and ideas that have shaped its history. See treasures from Anglo-Saxon England, Ancient Egyptian mummies, Renaissance masterpieces, exceptional works from China, Japan and Korea, and rare coins spanning more than 2,500 years. 
  • Archaeology & Antiquities Tour: Explore remarkable objects from across the Ashmolean's archaeology collections and discover what they reveal about past lives, beliefs and cultures. Learn how archaeologists, researchers and conservators use objects and evidence to uncover and interpret the past.
  • Art in Focus Tour: Explore outstanding works from the Ashmolean's Western and Eastern art collections. Discover the beauty and craftsmanship of paintings, ceramics and decorative arts, and the different artistic traditions, techniques and influences they represent.

Available daily during museum opening hours, (10am–5pm; last tour at 3.30pm). Each tour can accommodate up to 15 people per guide. If your group is larger, we can accommodate up to 45 people in the same time slot by providing additional guides. Please note that some tours are only available after 2.30pm or outside UK term time.

Enhance your visit with a private introductory exhibition talk led by one of our expert guides. Held in our lecture theatre, the talk provides valuable context and insights into the current temporary exhibition.

Complete your visit with a group dining experience in our Rooftop Restaurant. Situated on the Museum's top floor and overlooking Oxford's historic skyline, the restaurant provides a memorable setting to complement your visit, with lunch, Afternoon Tea or a private dining experience. 

Our seasonal lunch menus showcase fresh, carefully sourced ingredients and can be tailored to suit a range of group sizes and itineraries. Our seasonal Afternoon Tea features freshly prepared finger sandwiches, homemade scones served with clotted cream and preserve, and a selection of handcrafted pastries and cakes, accompanied by a choice of fine loose-leaf teas.  

Group dining can be booked alongside guided tours, exhibition talks, self-guided visits and exclusive out-of-hours experiences, making it easy to create a seamless itinerary for your group.

To ensure you get the best experience from your visit, we require all organised groups of more than 10 people to book at least two weeks in advance.

This one-hour audio tour introduces highlights from across the Museum, including Guy Fawkes’ lantern, the Alfred Jewel, Japanese samurai armour and the Oxford Crown. 

Beginning with a special welcome from Director Xa Sturgis, the tour brings together curators, artists, designers and experts to reveal the surprising stories behind the objects and the people connected with them. 

The tour is hosted on Smartify and is available in English, French, German, Italian, Mandarin and Spanish. Each visitor will need their own smartphone and headphones. Before the visit, we will provide clear instructions explaining how to access and download the tour.
