Giving to Artemis: Votive deposition at the Sanctuary of Artemis Amarynthos (Euboea)

SPOERRI BUTCHER M

The sanctuary of Artemis Amarynthos, whose location some 10 km east of Eretria had eluded identification until very recently, is currently being excavated by the Swiss School of Archaeology in Greece in association with the Ephorate of Antiquities of Euboea.

This paper focuses on a group of 176 coins found within a single structure, which is a well built in the Roman period with re-used Hellenistic marble slabs, trying to understand when and why these coins were deposited
in this well.
