SECONDARY SCHOOLS SELF-GUIDED VISITS

We welcome UK schools, colleges and universities for self-guided visits

Top tips for planning an inspiring self-guided visit to the Ashmolean Museum

  • use the website and learning resources before visiting to explore objects on display
  • have a clear learning focus for students to gather information or make sketches
  • for visits of one hour, aim to see three galleries or key objects
  • make use of portable digital devices (e.g. iPads, phones) to take photographs and gather information to use back in school
  • contact us to discuss your visit

Practical tips to help your visit to run smoothly

  • divide into groups of 10 students, accompanied by a responsible adult at all times
  • avoid galleries where there is a school session or talk taking place
  • visit the shop in groups of a maximum of 10 students at once
  • ask students to wear backpacks on their front or to hold them low down to protect objects on open display
  • don’t eat or drink in the galleries
  • turn off flash on cameras and be aware of galleries where photos can’t be taken due to copyright restrictions e.g. Modern Art

Please note that advance booking is essential for all school and college visits, even self-guided visits. We do book up quickly, so recommend that you book as far in advance as possible to avoid disappointment
