ANTIQUITIES STUDY CENTRE

The Antiquities Department has two study rooms: the Von Bothmer Study Centre and the Antiquities Study Room, both of which are available for research visits and University teaching.

OPENING HOURS

Tuesday to Friday, 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 4.30pm

Please book at least 4 weeks in advance

Admission is free

BOOK IN ADVANCE

All visits to our study rooms need to be booked four to six weeks in advance

Bookings can be made by emailing antiquities@ashmus.ox.ac.uk

Please provide a letter of introduction or reference from a qualified supervisor if you are new to the Ashmolean Antiquities Department

DURING YOUR VISIT

You can view around 15 objects or 4 archive volumes

Please come to the St Giles’ entrance of the Ashmolean at your appointed time to visit the study centre. A member of Antiquities will meet you there

The centre is accessible via the Museum lifts

PHOTOGRAPHY

When visiting our study centre, please:

  • make sure you have permission from the relevant Ashmolean curator if you wish to take photographs
  • only take photographs for private use or study; permission is needed for any form of publication as these objects are under copyright (you can contact the Picture Library for instructions about ordering and reproducing images)
