LEGACIES

The Ashmolean wouldn’t exist today without legacies left by generations before us. Anyone can leave a legacy gift to the Ashmolean, and it doesn’t cost you anything in your lifetime. You can also give in memory of a loved one. We would be happy to discuss our wishes with you in more detail.

We recommend that you speak to a solicitor for personal and confidential up-to-date advice tailored to your needs. They will ensure your intentions are clearly expressed and legally valid, and will be able to advise you on any tax benefits in relation to your gift.

THE 1683 SOCIETY

Named after our founding year, The 1683 Society is a group that recognises and thanks those who are generously leaving the Museum a gift in their Will or are interested in leaving a legacy. As some of our closest supporters, members are invited to come together to enjoy all of the treasures of the Ashmolean through a special series of annual events with our Director, curators and other Museum staff.

If you plan to leave us a gift in your Will, please let us know so we can thank you and keep you involved and informed through news and events. We can also discuss the ways in which you might like your gift to be recognised in the Museum or in print. Any information you provide will remain confidential.

SUGGESTED WORDING FOR YOUR WILL

As the Ashmolean is part of the University of Oxford, please include the following in your will to ensure that your intention for your gift is clear:

‘I give free of tax the [sum of / item specified / residue of my estate] to The Chancellor, Masters and Scholars of the University of Oxford for the Ashmolean Museum.’
